As the Campus of Caring Turns 30, Security and Tech Get Upgrades

GS Staff poses with Bright Solutions staff on the campus

The open layout of our 5-acre, 14-building Glasser/Schoenbaum campus is in need of modern security measures and technical advances. Thanks to the Selby Foundation, our Campus of Caring will be getting its first major security and tech overhaul since opening their doors in 1990.

The Selby Foundation is granting the Center $50,000 to complete the project. The Center will be contracting with local electrical contractor, Bright Solutions, to complete the total project, estimated at a cost of $75,000. The plan includes:

  • Keyless controlled-access doors (eliminating the need for easily-copied keys)
  • Security cameras ensuring safety for both clients and staff
  • Campus-wide WiFi for staff and visitors

“Dr. Glasser’s vision of a bricks-and-mortar nonprofit center ensured that the tenant partners residing here would never need to spend their time and funds on these kinds of overhead costs. She hoped they could focus their resources on the services they provide to people. People were her real passion,” says Dr. Kameron Hodgens, Executive Director & CEO of the Center. “Thanks to the Selby Foundation, we are carrying her vision forward to ensure that the Center remains a stable and safe mainstay of our community.”

“The Selby Foundation is elated to be a part of this important project.  The upgrades to the safety and security of the facility, along with the technical upgrades, will benefit all that are served by The Glasser/Schoenbaum Human Services Center” says Carol Butera, President and CEO of the William G. and Marie Selby Foundation.

As a small organization with a staff of two, employee safety was a big consideration when we were looking for office space. We did not want our employees to be in a place where they were alone. Being on the GSHSC campus has been great because there is a whole community of like-minded professionals.

I can't fully express how wonderful it is to take a client by the hand and walk them no more than a couple hundred feet from our office to another agency that can help them when they are in crisis.

We are a small and young organization and having the ability to network and partner with other community organizations is key to the quality and impact of our work. In addition to the affordable space that The Glasser/Schoenbaum Human Services Center provides to all of us, it inspires us to use this collaborative model as we work to empower our students and their families.
