How does a place create a community?

We know from research that a person’s zip code is a more reliable determinant of health than their genetic code. Why then, do we still struggle with poverty, addiction and homelessness in this region of beauty and prosperity?

Join us for our annual luncheon in March as we discuss the value of shared space, and learn how our one-stop-shop for human services invites collaboration, offers accessibility, and drives better outcomes for the most vulnerable parts of our population.

Guest speaker Elma J. Felix-Lamontagne, AICP, will deliver a presentation about how places help to shape the identity of a community.

With over 11 years of experience, Elma has worked on a variety of global projects at every scale. Her experience focuses on urban-design, master planning, sustainability and policy-based implementation strategies. Her complementary background in architecture helps define the urban rooms in which we live our public lives. Elma's research includes topics on resiliency, public engagement and the relationship between urban-design and the social equity of places. In her current position, she champions policy and land use solutions that promote economic, social, and environmental benefits for Sarasota County.

This event is a fundraiser benefiting Glasser/Schoenbaum's mission of leading a collaborative community and providing high quality, accessible facilities and resources for the local human services nonprofit sector.

Presented by the Harriet & Steven Osterweis Charitable fund at the Community Foundation of Sarasota County.

Real estate is one of the greatest costs in a business budget. Our partnership with The Glasser/Schoenbaum Human Services Center allows more money to go towards our mission. And what better place to house our office than on a campus with nineteen other outreach agencies.

Collaboration is key to the success of our work. The Campus of Caring is a unique space where we can easily join forces with other agencies to make the best use of our resources and maximize our community impact. The affordable rent allows us to allocate more funds to our mission of transforming the lives of students and their families.

As a small organization with a staff of two, employee safety was a big consideration when we were looking for office space. We did not want our employees to be in a place where they were alone. Being on the GSHSC campus has been great because there is a whole community of like-minded professionals.
