Our Vision:

A supported network of human services whose collective impact improves the quality of life in our community.

Why support Glasser/Schoenbaum? (5m 19s)

Our Most Valuable Resource

The Glasser/Schoenbaum Human Services Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that believes that our most valuable resource is each other. Providing connection and resources for nonprofits ensures the greatest possible impact for all people who work, live, and play in Sarasota, Manatee, and DeSoto counties.

We fulfill this belief through major programs such as leasing affordable office space, connecting the nonprofit network, and processing emergency funding as a fiscal agent for local foundations.

We work every day, keeping the lights on and the doors open for those in need.

Why are nonprofit centers important?

Tenant partners report that they are better able to achieve their goals by maintaining stronger revenues, delivering higher quality services, operating larger programs, and benefiting from improved staff morale, recruitment, and retention.

In 2022, our Center’s tenant partners touched the lives of over 25,000 individuals in our community through 80 programs delivered by more than 200 staff. The economic impact is profound, as the tenant partners’ budgets totaled more than $38 million. Those dollars help to offset and alleviate burdens on other major social welfare systems such as healthcare, the criminal justice system, and education.

The Center’s operational expenses are covered by the agencies’ rent payments, grants, returns from investments held at local foundations, and donations from generous community members.

Our Founders and History

Dr. Kay Glasser and Betty Schoenbaum

“Many people do not stop to consider the fact that the quality of life of Sarasota rests upon the quality of life of its people.”
-Dr. Kay Glasser, Co-Founder

Founder Dr. Kay Glasser’s purpose for the Center was twofold – in her own words, “to provide accessible and affordable service” and “to save agencies operational dollars so that they would have more resources for services.” That was in 1988.

Through her volunteer efforts, she developed an alliance of public and private philanthropy. A seed money donation from the Schoenbaum family was instrumental to the creation of The Glasser/Schoenbaum Human Services Center which officially opened in March of 1990.

Today, more than 30 years later, we remain true to her concept, providing a human services hub where nonprofits can find and use resources to advance their missions for a greater quality of life for all who visit and live in the Sarasota region.

The staff at Glasser/Schoenbaum have done a great job of connecting the many organizations on campus and creating a space that sparks collaboration. This sense of community extends to staff and clients alike, helping to break down barriers and leading to innovative ways to serve the community as a whole.

Real estate is one of the greatest costs in a business budget. Our partnership with The Glasser/Schoenbaum Human Services Center allows more money to go towards our mission. And what better place to house our office than on a campus with nineteen other outreach agencies.
